UNBEKNOWST to Myanmar’s diligent meteorological department, an extremely localised snowstorm has carpeted the interior of this two-storey Golden Valley house.

Some snow has fallen on the exterior but the vast majority seems to have settled in the ground floor, rendering the entryway, dining room and lounge room almost impossible to perceive.

However, using heavily veiled goggles you’ll be able to pick out the ornate pillars that support the heavily decorative wrought iron staircase from the polar white walls and ceiling; you might even catch some aspects of the detailing that surrounds the door arches should you venture close enough.

Safety, however, waits in the kitchen with its wide open spaces, vast benches and cool chequerboard flooring.
The story is similar upstairs, only clean up crews have swept the snow from the flooring but the walls remain drenched in white.

In all, the Thanlwin Road house covers 4900 square feet and sits on a 3080-square-foot block. The monthly rental is US$1000, for which you get four bedrooms – one ensuite master and three singles.

The house does offer good natural lighting and ventilation from its many windows. It includes one telephone line, two electricity meters and three air-conditioners. Water is supplied via government water main, or by melting the snow.
