“Electricity at affordable places with gardens is not very good since most of them are out of town. Also, some places don’t have tube wells and we have to rely on the mains water supply, which is less reliable in the summer,” U Ko Ko Aung said. While there are many attractive, leafy homes with large gardens in well-serviced townships such as Bahan, these are well beyond most buyers’ means.

“There may be delays when using normal trade, such as in processing remittances and transactions which are to be done through banks, but normal trade procedures will help traders avoid fraud,”

“I breathed a sigh of relief when the rumour was conclusively denied by the government because I can only afford to trade in low-priced, older cars. I don’t need to worry about that problem anymore,”

“The income declaration forms are available in all of the IRD offices scattered across the country and are to be submitted to the IRD…”

The company said in a statement that its net profit dropped to US$10,000 from $35,000 in the corresponding first quarter of 2006. The company recommended no dividend be paid for the quarter.

“Actually, gas shouldn’t cost that much, and if the government provided sufficient gas for the people it would be cheaper and more families would use gas stoves,”

This represents an increase from 66.8pc in 2005-06 but remains below the Central Bank’s ruling that loans not amount to more than 80pc of deposits.

State-owned Sinopec will start drilling its first well at Block D, which is covers 4763 square miles of Sagaing and Magwe divisions, the official said on condition of anonymity.

PTTEP announced the discovery of gas in the M9 exploration block – about 185 miles south of Yangon in the Gulf of Mottama – in January, and has been drilling appraisal wells this year to evaluate the size of the field and develop a production plan.

“We chose this place even though it’s a long way from downtown because we expect the area on Kyan Sit Thar Road in Hlaing Thar Yar township to develop more in the future,”

HOUSE OF THE WEEK
At the back of the 12,978-square-foot (1205-square-metre) section is another treat. Built at the same time as the main house is a second, smaller, two-storey building with myriad possibilities

“I don’t know exactly what happened,” said the driver of one of the cars that was hit by the bus. “A Town Ace that was hit by the bus was in front of me and a taxi that also got hit was beside me. The bus collided with the Town Ace first and then the taxi. It just dragged the cars along until it hit the police box.”

“At first they were surprised to see me. My dress and appearance looked strange to them. It was most obvious when I encountered a group of 50 children, who bustled around me,”

“The projected total cost to set up a village internet centre is about K8 million. But it could vary from K7 million to K10 million depending on the number of computers, the type of internet connection and the system used to generate power,”

“Paris puts on an amazing festival and was the first place in the world to hold one in 1981. Now many countries have adopted the tradition including Myanmar.”

“I will not stop following my dreams but I can’t give up caricaturing because I make my living doing it. I think drawing caricatures will support my plan to make paintings in the future influenced by my work as a caricaturist.”
