AFTER a two-year hiatus, the weekly International Economic Journal
has started publishing again as the World Economic Journal.
“We have started publishing again under a different name
because we want to report the news we think should be reported,”
said U Khin Maung Nyo, the chief editor of the journal.
Publication of International Economic Journal stopped in 2004
after four years due to lack of finances.
“We didn’t know anything about marketing or how
to attract advertisers so we had to stop,” said U Khin Maung
Nyo. “I have spent two years gathering financial support
so now I can start publishing again.”
The first issue of the reborn publication, which calls itself
“the first Myanmar economic and intellectual property journal”,
hit newsstands on August 9 and contained news stories written
locally and downloaded from the internet.
“Our journal will enhance public awareness about intellectual
property rights by providing information on the subject,”
said U Min Tay Za, the deputy editor of the journal and a managing
partner of U Nyunt Tin Associates, an intellectual property law
firm.
“We have a lot of trademark advertisements so we can sustain
ourselves in the market,” U Min Tay Za said.
As a promotional strategy, the journal is distributing 40 percent
of the 3000-copy press run of the first issue to government offices,
including the trademark registry office.
